Freehand Soot Sprite Nail Art

Allo polish Pals!

How are you all doing today? I hope your week is going well. I'm working most of this week – means I get Saturday off, wahoo! I'm already trying to work out what I'll be painting on my days off although when it actually comes to it I find my oompf is lacking. Just like on Sunday, I started painting some beach hut nails and I just couldn't make myself finish it. My heart wasn't in it..

But today I have some cute little soot sprites to share with you, I used to love Studio Ghibli films such as Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away.. And I always thought those little soot sprites were so cute! So I've captured them!

In terms of products there's not really a lot I can say about this design – I used just one nail polish besides my base and top coat. I focused more on trying to shade everything so it looked like the soot sprites where popping off the nails rather than looking flat.

I began with OPI's Nail Envy base coat, my claim for long, strong and healthy nails. I then applied two coats of ORLY's 'White tips' for the perfectly smooth clean canvas and added a thin coat of Pro-FX top coat which creates a nice base for my acrylic paints to stick on top.

I used a mixture of acrylic paints and my beloved Pure Color brush in size 10. Once I was happy with my design I applied two more coats of top coat to seal the design in (acrylic paint will wash off if you don't seal your design) and eventually added my Barry M matte top coat for a smooth finish.

One thing that has always got me with Studio Ghibli movies is the art work. How beautiful they can make landscapes look, the clouds so puffy and the skies so beautiful you could float in them.. I guess if I could pick how I painted my designs would look more like that!

What do you think of this design? What's your favourite animated movie?

Thank you so much stopping by, be sure to pop me a hello in the comments :) I'll catch you on Friday, have a wonderful day!

Love,
Ithi

  1. Your little sprites are SO adorable! I can almost hear the chittering noises I imagine they'd make if they were making sounds :)
One of my favorite animated movies is Kubo and the Two Strings, but I love so many I can't really choose.
